The bus
tour will depart from Fairmont Hot Springs Resort at 8:00 a.m. and will
proceed in the order listed. Participants can expect to see:
? Streamside Tailings Operable Unit:
Remediation conducted outside the 25-year floodplain, current creek
remediation in Ramsay Flats, a scope of the contamination in the area,
established vegetation (including weed control issues).

Lower Area One (LAO) of the Butte Priority Soils Operable Unit

Silver Bow Creek channel and floodplain remediation, completed as part of
the LAO
expedited response action (substantially completed in 1998).
- Butte
Treatment Lagoons: an active lime treatment system which uses a series of
lagoons to precipitate metal from area groundwater and surface waters.

Horseshoe Bend Water Treatment Plant (lime precipitation - two-stage,
high-density sludge system).

The greatest loss of life in hardrock mining history occurred in Butte on
June 8, 1917, when 168 men died in the tragic Spec Fire Disaster. The
Granite Mountain Memorial offers the visitor an unforgettable panoramic
view of the 10,000-foot Highland Mountains, the Continental Divide and the
remnants of a once booming mining industry.
